Swan On thin Ice

As my regular reader may remember, but probably not as you have a life, I mentioned in a previous post that while filming during the winter I had a juvenile Swan that came towards my hiding place. I filmed the incident and here is the film.

Dear Wood Mouse,

Thank you for the outstanding video. That young swan scrabbling on the ice was one of the funniest nature videos I've seen in a while. I would like to draw the bird for my book! Would you like a credit if I do?
*No actual Wood Mouse frames will appear, just sketches based on the action in the video.

Hi Nancy, I am glad you liked it. When I shot the footage I think the swan was as surprised by me as I was by it. Equally I think it was frightened too so went for the swiftest entry point to the pond. I had to lift the camera out of the way, tripod and all to let the swan past. It was only when I realised it was scrabbling on the ice did I get the footage. I felt sorry for the poor bird actually, but it regained its dignity.

I am not worried about any credits, as I am sure your drawings are inspired by many sources. Also as you are a professional animator I doubt that you would have used my film without permission, and you have that too.

At the very least I hope that by sharing what I see via video it helps inspire others to love the world as I do.

Hi WoodMouse,
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
I'll print your blog address in the book and it will get you some animator visitors!
I'm starting on a chapter this week that can use some 'scrabbling on ice' sketches and these should be perfect. Would you like me to send them to you?
